My Chelsea FC 2011 - Part 1

PART 1

Before I begin this post, I would like to congratulate our national football team (Harimau Malaya) for playing some fantastic football against one of the top clubs from the EPL (Chelsea) Although we lost by one goal (thanks to a Didier Drogba free kick) it was still mind blowing to watch how our Harimau Malaya managed to keep the Blues at bay plus creating some really good chances for the Tigers to cause a massive upset.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, it is time for me to tell my experience during the Chelsea training session at Bukit Jalil stadium (which was held on the 19^th July 2011)

Even though I’m a BIG Chelsea fan at heart (I have the car stickers to prove it!) I didn’t buy any tickets for the real match because of financial setbacks. So how did I acquire those training passes (you might ask)? Well…a colleague of mine from the faculty (which we will refer to as Mikhail) got the free passes for me since he knew that I was such a big fan.

I thought he was pulling my leg when he called up to say that he got two training passes for me. Anyway, Mikhail suggested that I bring along my wife or other friends to the training session. Firstly I knew that my wife wouldn’t want to come because she didn’t want to leave Wildan (my son) at home after office hours. So my second plan was to invite one of my friends to tag along.

I called my friend from UM (just for fun, we will refer to him as Zal) for the free invite. Zal was “excited” when I told him about the free passes. He genuinely was enthusiastic about the thing. Sadly Zal was a bit preoccupied with his “work” . In the end I offered the second training pass back to the man who gave it to me in the first place…Mikhail

LIFE

Life is hard but it also can be beautiful. More often than not, it’s a little bit of both. It’s been almost two years since my last post in this "ancient" blog of mine. I think it is time for me to let The BisKut_TiGeR roar once more.

Life... a lot has happened (and changed) in my life. Honestly, I even don't know where to begin. This is due to the fact that I had not one but three life changing experiences. Needless to say, my life will never be the same.

Maybe I should start this story with something that I've kept close to my heart for some time now. The story begins back in late 2009

2009 will definitely be my saddest year. This is the year my father passed away. If you ever lost your father or mother (or someone really close), than you know how it feels. The best word that I can think of to express this feeling that I had at the time would be...lost. I felt lost.

Lost in the sense that I couldn’t understand how it could happen, why it happened and at the same time didn't want to accept it. But this feeling of lost didn’t last long. Praise to Allah that I knew that everything happens for a reason. Even though it is unclear at first, in time we will understand it. What I’m trying to say is that I accepted what had happen and life goes on.

Now my real journey begins...

The Biggest Loser

Ever since I started watching the Biggest Loser on the Hallmark channel (Astro) I’ve been inspired to improve my health and body. I must admit that I’m not in the best of shape compared to my “younger” days.

I’m 24 years old and I weigh in at 80kg. Since I’m not a tall guy, 80kg is just to “fat” for me. I haven’t been this heavy since my secondary school years. Nevertheless I am determined to loose the weight and gain my health back.

So for the past two weeks I’ve been jogging after work and also on weekends. Let me tell you that for the first few days of light jogging were painful. My legs felt heavy and I just felt constant pain.

But now when I jog I don’t feel the pain anymore. My legs feel lighter and I can go for a long distance without having to rest. Physically I feel great. Of course my main objective is to lose my “fatty excess baggage” so that I can wear my 32 inch waist pants again (currently I’m 34 inch)

However all of this could not be possible if I did it on my own. In order to have a consistent jogging routine I strongly recommend you jog with a partner. Having another person jog and support you will be the defining factor in your quest to lose the pounds.

On that note I would like to thank my jogging partner (you know who you are ^_^) for her support and willingness to be apart of my new healthier life style.

PS – I’ll post my new weight at the end of the month…

My MMU interview

I went for an interview yesterday at the Multimedia University (MMU) in Cyberjaya. It was for the assistant manager post at the research & development division (R&D).

In order to make this story interesting, let me begin the story 2 days before the actual interview. Here we go… It all began when I was doing my “thing” at the office when suddenly a colleague of mine drop by the office and said that I should try applying for a job vacancy at MMU. Since I had nothing better to do (except for finishing my transcription…sorry boss…still on it) I just sent my resume via email. Bare in mind that I sent my resume for “suka-suka” (fun) I didn’t have any serious intention of going for the interview at that time.

The next day I received a call from a representative from MMU asking me if I was willing to attend the interview session for the assistant manager post tomorrow. Since I had nothing better to do (hehe) I said yes.

On the interview day itself I asked a friend of mine who is already working there to accompany me for morale support. But since he had other work to do he accompanied me for a brief period and gave me the “secret weapon” for the interview. You’ll never guess what it is......he gave me an orange coloured tie. Yes folks the competitive edge for an interview at MMU is the official TM orange tie. I’m not kidding…that tie really is a plus.

Although I arrived early, I still became the last person to walk in for the interview because the lists of candidates were according to alphabetical order. I waited 3 hours. YES 3 HOURS. From 3 pm to 6pm. All I could think of at that moment was (Zzzzzz).

Finally it was my turn to shine. I must admit that I was a little overwhelmed when I walked into the meeting room. There was not 1, not 2 but 5 interviewers. Yes 5… To make a long story short…the interview went well and the result…..I’ll be posting that soon….

Perdana Discourse Series 9

The ninth Perdana Discourse Series (PDS9) was held on the 6th of May 2009 at the Perdana Leadership Foundation (PLF) in Putrajaya. But for those of you who are in the dark about what PDS is, let me fill in the void with a brief explanation about the program. It is a one-day semi-structured communication platform where a prominent presenter (in this case Tun Mahathir) will speak to selected clusters of audience on a pre-determined topic addressing its definition and tracing issues like policies, strategies and possible models used during the tenure of the past prime ministers. In addition a panellist session will also be conducted to develop the topic.

This is my second time being involved with the PDS and let me just say that the topic of discussion was far from “boring”. The topic was about “the role of the executive, legislative, judiciary and constitutional monarchy in the governing of Malaysia” (I’m not making this up) that’s the topic chosen by Tun M. I’ll admit that my general knowledge regarding to laws and constituencies in Malaysia are quite limited but I tried my best to grasp at what Tun M had to say. In terms of guests at the program, the auditorium was packed (as usual) and the participants were mainly people who have keen interests in the subject of law.

For most parts of the keynote address I found myself lost in the judiciary jargon used by Tun. Anyway, during the Q&A session with Tun it was no surprise that people were more than eager to get their questions to Tun. After its all said and done the result is simple, I have witnessed a community that is passionate about the country and also its people. The right for all Malaysian is a priority and responsibility for all. The world will never be truly justified but at least we can say that we have tried.

It’s been far too long since my last posting on this blog. The main reason why I haven’t been updating it is because; well I just don’t have anything interesting or stupid to say. (Or is it because I’m just to busy at work?) In any case I apologize to my “fans” for not being more productive and constructive. Perhaps my fellow bloggers can drop an email and give suggestions or even share their thoughts on certain matters that need my participation. I’ll be more than happy to give my comments and views.

There are tons of issues going on locally and globally around us. But for some uncanny reason, I don’t feel like commenting or giving my thoughts on them. Maybe something’s are better left unsaid. Or maybe I’m just too lazy to blog about it. In any case, I’ll try my best to share my thoughts in the near future. So for the time being I’ll just post some pictures of me during the KLFCW - Forum for Palestine which was held on THURSDAY 5th FEBRUARY 2009 at the CROWNE PLAZA MUTIARA HOTEL, KUALA LUMPUR.

Accidents DO happen.....to ANYONE !!!

Where do I even begin? Let me begin by asking a simple question. Do you believe that car accidents will never happen to you? Well, if you asked me that question a week ago I would have definitely said no. But something happened to me that changed my view on this matter. I was involved in an accident. The good news is no one was injured. My car on the other hand was not so lucky. Yes…an accident.

Just for the record I’m the victim of the accident and not the cause of it. We can thank a nineteen year old girl driving her mother’s car for the incident. Even though I know it was not her intentions to cause the accident, I must admit I was pretty, very irritated about what had happen to my car. Again just for the record my car is still new. I just got it 3 months ago. Anyway, the incident went like this. It was 1.10pm I was driving my car accompanied by awin to get our convocation scrolls at UiTM Shah Alam.

Because the convocation ceremonies were still on going, the roads inside the campus were congested. In other words, we were literally in a traffic jam. So it was impossible for anyone to get to anywhere fast. Now this is when it gets interesting or for me painful. It happened so fast. All of a sudden a loud crash was heard and felt. I was thrown forward to my steering wheel. Awin was also thrown forward. The impact was so violent. I quickly looked at Awin to see if she was hurt. Luckly she was alright. I looked around and saw people jaws drop because of what happen. Next I turned my intention on the person who hit my car. I got out of the car and looked at what kind of damage the impact had caused.

I was in utter disbelief when I saw a big dent on the back bonnet of the car and the rear bumper was also in bad shape.Let me be honest. At that point all I wanted to do was to kick the living sh*t out of the driver who caused it. But for the record I didn’t (even though I really wanted to). Moving on, I pointed to the driver and told her to pull her car over to a parking lot. At that moment there was so much emotion running inside of me. If I was Bruce Banner I could literally change into the Hulk at that moment.

Anyway when the driver came out of her car my anger only grew. Why you may ask. Well firstly because she was a girl so I couldn't really beat the living sh*t out of her and secondly I realized that she was not the owner of the car. (for the record she was driving an auto transmission) Moving on, it was clearly her fault and I had no time to give her a verbal beating (again I was very tempted but didn’t) so I just went to the basics and ask for her Mykad, driver licencse and contact number. In addition I also told her to contact her parents and inform them of the situation. She was reluctant at first but changed her mine after I gave her a whipping in verbal context.

I could see it in her eyes that she really did not want her parents to know but she had no choice. The thing that irritated me the most was her excuse that she had other things to do. In other words she was in a hurry. So I gave her a break and told her to make sure her parents contacted me as soon as possible.Again I can see her fear when I mentioned her parents. After she agreed I let her go. Now the right thing to do in this kind of situation was to make a police report. Which I did.

This story is far from over but I will leave it here for now. The moral of the story....
Well, I'll leave that for you to decide...

Perdana Discourse Series 8

Yesterday was a very interesting day for me. This is because the Perdana Leadership Foundation organized the annual Perdana Discourse Series. The topic of the discussion was on “Bangsa Malaysia”. As usual, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad gave his keynote speech on the matter with authority and charm. I must admit that when listening to what he had to say on the matter made me think a lot about the nation’s current situation on racism and unity among our diverse community.

After his long and insightful speech, it was time for the Q&A session. In my mind I had no doubt that Tun could answer any questions from the crowd of people in the auditorium. I forgot to mention that initially the program was setup for 300 guests. But the turn out result was well above 500 guests. This can be seen as a testament to the popularity of Tun. As I expected, Tun answered all of the questions with authority and conviction. So that’s the end of Tun’s role in the Perdana Discourse Series. Next up was the panel session.

Now this is where it gets interesting. The panellists consist of Prof. Dato’ Dr. Shamsul Amri, Dr. KJ John, Dr Chandra Muzaffar and Mr Alvin Goh. All of which are very successful and may I say established people in their respected fields. Listening to them discussing on the issue was indeed a real mind opener. Discussing on a topic that is related to sensitive issues like racism and religion required the panellist to be just and backed up with facts. It was concluded from one of the panellist that talks such as this must be more often and opened to the public. It is time for our community to discuss and work together to build a truly “Bangsa Malaysia”

That’s enough about the series. Now I would like to share my experience with some of the guests at the program. Firstly I met one of the facilitators for the group session. He is a lecturer from UiTM. We had a short discussion on the “Bangsa Malaysia” topic. We both agreed that the majority of Malay students in the local IPTA’s are still not aware of the dangers of being to relax in their studies. In other words, taking things for granted. They need to wake up!!! The world is changing. Malay students must be aware that they are facing difficult times ahead. Competition is growing.

Therefore they must be prepared at a young age. Their mindset must be changed. If not, the Malays will become the minority in their own land. Like Alvin Goh said when he was in the group session, “We must be ready to kick butt”. Meaning we must be willing to work hard and face our competition head on. Survival of the fittest.

I also had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Alvin Goh. When he first met me he thought that I was one of the UiTM students. Anyway, we proceeded in having a small conversation. The thing that caught my attention was that of his interest in the PLF library. He said that it would be a shame if the library wasn't visited by more people. He also added that the library has a lot of potential and in the years to come the PLF library will become a valuable resource. The only thing that he was not satisfied with the library was because of its location. But eventually I told him that the library focuses more on online development and not visitor oriented. He agreed.

Yes, it was a very insightful day for me at the Perdana Leadership Foundation. But I must also mention that a lot of work and effort was put into making this program a success. Therefore I would like congratulate all of the PLF staff on doing a great job. I am honoured and proud to be a part of that team.

I just realise that having a blog is a huge responsibility. Why you may ask. Well for starters, anything you post will be read by people you may or may not know. And the things we say may offend some of them. That is why we must identify our target audience and think carefully before posting anything.

Or you can say it is our right of free speech to say what we want.
Food for thought...Anyway, this is just me talking to myself.

In addition I have decided that I will try to be a reasonable and cautious blogger. Maybe many of you will think that my blog is boring or to serious. Well thats your opinion. I cannot change that.

In the weeks to come I hope I can find something interesting to talk about and give my views on the matter.

New beginning

It just occurred to me that in order to move forward we must be willing to accept change. This is the reason why I created this blog. It all becomes clear now. We live in a world where emails, blogs, Youtube, google have become part of our daily lives. It's difficult to imagine life without our digital tools.

Anyway because this is my first time writing a blog, I feel like I'm talking to myself rather than communicating or sharing with other people. I even don't know who will be reading this.

I hope this will be the beginning of something meaningful in my life.
